Hey, what’s Kanme reading?

Wednesday : 02/05/2025

What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all  love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.

Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:

Murder by Value Creator : Toeescape

Murder by Value

What we know :   Two teens- Eadith Esther and Cameron Grasso have been severely affected by events that traumatized them at an early age. Now at the same school, the two begin to bond and slowly realize their perpetrators may be closer to them than they realize.

What we love : This comic is a bit of a mind trip, the writing is authentic in a way that it’s how people talk in real life, it’s human, there’s “comic “dialogue but then there is real life dialogue, those comics like this one have a very natural feeling towards the characters and their lives. There are trans OCs but it doesn’t feel token, again like the dialogue it feels natural not forced, it’s how it should be. The story is a mystery, that feels like you are running through a dark funhouse, and mirrors are disguised as exits, you’re not sure where it’s going and then something unexpected happens and it jars you, but you feel it’s building intensely towards something big, the question that keeps you reading is : What is coming? It’s on wt check it out.

 Chasing Seafoam : Creator 4771sn

Chasing Seafoam

What we know : Completed one shot.  A short story about loss.

What we love : it’s a short story that packs a wallop of love and loss, sunny one minute then the bitter cold dark rain. I encourage the Creator to please make more comics, this was exquisitely done from art, to pacing to backgrounds and there should be more. I read it on NamiComi.

Love in Ruins  Creator : Flannce

Love in Ruins

What we know :  Deep in the jungle, on an island in Polynesia, an ancient temple has been uncovered. For reasons he keeps secret, businessman Caleb Makoa has hired archeologist Dr. Issac Gideon and his team to uncover the temple’s mysteries. Now the two of them are tangled together as they try to escape the temple and everything inside. Will they make it out alive?

What we love : While I usually focus on smaller comics that need a little boost, I know that even Indie comics with a larger audience need a little boost too! Plus this is a darn good spicy comic full of that blush sexual tension of will they won’t they man to man style.  The art is done by the crew at  Pepe  Studio  and is top shelf! Well done, and clean and readily competes with the mainstream Originals professionally. The storytelling is as well done as the art, compelling and very soap opera like but not in a cliche’ way! No,  in the : keep reading and don’t stop! way. Much like other great comics I have the pleasure to read, I hit the end too quickly now I have to wait for a new update! There’s a reason why this comic has a big following so join in and give it a sub! I read it on wt.

Nothing Ever Happens Creator : Randi Fultz

Nothing Ever Happens

What we know :  A tale about nature, in its efforts to defend itself against constant threats, turning the fight inward.

What we love : It dawned on me that when I was exploring indie comics before committing to going indie, I had seen this comic on wt, and the art intrigued me. Then the Creator came back on my radar recently and so I headed over to read the new version on GlobalComix! Glad I did!  What a compelling and creative comic, you wonder through the world with these beings in their inner thoughts as they wonder and wander. When I speak of “quiet” comics I mean like this, the way there is just a stillness and calmness to the book, and as it flows for you to read. This is beautifully done. Check it out on GlobalComix.
