 Hey, what’s Kanme reading?

Wednesday 03/012/2025

What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all  love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.

Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.

Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:

Drifting along Creator : Sunsolic

Drifting Along

What we know :  Twenty-one-year-old Salai has gotten bored of his world. He’s sick of his home life, family life, and just life in general. It isn’t until a familiar trip to a campground for the summer; where he finds a stone in an abandoned structure in the woods, that his life ends up changing forever.

What we love: The art in this comic is dreamy, just as the comic itself. What is real in the forests surrounding the summer camp, what was the strange stone made out of?  The suspenseful and mysterious storytelling has you reading episode after episode! I read this on webtoon. Head over and give them a sub!

BrewQuest Creator : Bogus

 Bogus the comic

What we know :  A Sheriff and his crew embark on a reckless quest to steal their power source back from some blood-powered prick.

What we Love: This was nostalgic fun,you keep clicking away while the panels take you through the story like an old school video game. The website was straight out of the 90’s and I loved it. It’s fun, go check it out!

Death was Born Creator : _y_f_m

Death was Born

What we know : In a stagnant world where Gods reign, a deal is made. The delicate, rotting balance finally shifts under the hand of a woman. Servant to a god, a being that seeks to ascend to divinity, mortals and gods are all caught up in a whirlwind of change, like pebbles in the tides of an ocean. Inevitably, time inexorably brings about the future.

What we Love: This comic came on my radar on reddit because of the title, instantly memorable. A fantasy, with every panel are hauntingly painted befitting the story. From lighting, to landscapes, to the regality of the characters and their costuming all create an ambience of ethereal beauty even at its scariest. The story telling is rich and lavish, more like watching a film than a comic. You’ve got to check this out on webtoon!

The Hero, antihero and the villain Creator :

The Hero, antihero, villain

What we know :  Hero, a powerful figure, haunted by a dark past and a mission to repay the world for his past mistakes. Villain, driven by hatred, seeks to manipulate and twist those around him, including Anti, a conflicted individual struggling with her own internal battles. As their paths intertwined each must confront the darkness within themselves, setting the stage for the collision of ideals, power and destiny.

What we love : Back in my youth pre-internet days, I should say the internet was around but not everyone had it. All we had were ashcan comics, a xerox machine, and a snail mail mailing list from Friendship books, these were pen pal booklets people made and sent off into the world, we had daily mail deliveries from all over for the price of a stamp. Around 1996 all that changed as the internet rose up, by 1999 our ashcan days were done. So why am I talking about that? Because this comic is right there in the spirit of those days! Initially the Creator was a little worried to show me their work, but they needn’t have worried, I loved it! The hand penciled, raw art form of the pages reminded me of when I created before I tied myself up with Z patterns and whatnot, while you know I am the number 1 rule breaker when it comes to comics – in my youth I was free form, what I see in these pages is art with full heart on display. The Characters converse about good and evil, they could be us, as we struggle in the dark and light every day.  I read it on tumblr , reactivating my account just to keep up with this comic’s updates!

Thank you for reading! As always send me your comics!
