Hey, what’s Kanme reading?
Wednesday 03/19/2025
What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognising the comics we love to read.
Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.
Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:
Reaper’s Guardian Angel Creator : Solar_Univer
What we know: To reward Grim reaper for his long-time, hard work, God decided to give him a vacation indefinitely. However, to Grim reaper, it seems to be a punishment instead?! But God is a caring person, so he also appointed a guardian angel for the reaper to help him. The problem is the angel may be a bit too young… (Are you sure this isn’t just a mission to raise this angel?). What is going to happen and when can the reaper return to his job? Who knows? Only the God knows.(On Hiatus but the Creator is coming back, not to worry!)
What we love: Death takes a holiday- by mistake?( sorry I had to mash up two movie lines together- I had to) God rewards the hardest working employee with a well-deserved holiday, whether he likes it or not. The opening scene is captivating, and emotional, the experience we will all go through as no one here gets out alive. The comedic touches start coming in, Workaholic Death can’t give up his job for anything, Big Boss man God using a smiley face in a memo, Then there is the cute littlest angel Iris has a Big Job as the Security Guard, but can she do it? God works in Mysterious ways, so we’ll see! This is a cute funny comic and just a hoot to read, coming from the perspective of a fellow workaholic (Well, unlike Death I don’t get vacation time, lucky guy!) Some of my fav episodes have no dialogue, only panels and it is so well done, it speaks and tells you everything you need to know without a single word spoken, as I try to teach quite often, sometimes in comics words aren’t needed. Be prepared for lots of humor but also make no mistake there are moments of heart wrenching sadness, but it’s all so worth it. I subbed and read on Webtoon.
Bonus art :
Samuel you’re breaking my heart dude!!
GOLDBLOOM Creator : GADZO
What we know: In the Kingdom, where magic and technology intertwine, Violette Goldbloom’s life is upended when she consumes a legendary black flower tied to Ancestral Lumea. Now hunted by Oswald, a fallen Vanguard, she’s caught in a larger web of intrigue. As Sentinels investigate mysterious deaths and rogues seek revenge, Violette’s fate is just one piece of a greater mystery that could reshape the Kingdom.
What we love: This comic is also on webtoon, so you can check it out on either platform, but I read it on my fav app GlobalComix. The creative team does a good job introducing the OC cast in a way that isn’t too overwhelming (My brain can get too overstimulated ) through the first episodes. The story of a sweet little Florist who stomachs a rare flower and also the dark forces after it, brings you in and keeps you reading. It is both delightful and emotional and most certainly an epic journey getting its start. I love the Character designs and art, each OC is distinct and can be easily remembered, as we’re given a glimpse of their stories, but especially for me- Button Butts!! – no way to forget that little dude-no way.dd it to your library at GlobalComix!
Oh, here too is bonus art of the funniest panel for The Vangard Lionel, I snorted when I saw this: so it makes him memorable too.
A Desert Lost Creator : SorayaCaraca
What we know: Stuck in the Arizona desert on an abandoned airbase, Lia has lived a sheltered life alone with her borderline-schizophrenic father. But her weird life is offset when two strangers arrive in the desert and take a keen interest in her home. Lia can’t help but feel a new-found confidence when the odd duo ask for her help to show them around – but are they really just curious tourists, or is there something they’re not telling her?
What we love: Sci fi story set in Arizona, and I’m sitting in Arizona as I write this. The moment you mention any form of blistering AZ heat I feel like it’s July in the room (my AC is on and it’s only March!). The story of a drought proof lake, and strangers in a survivalist environment, with possible deadly intentions, you’ll want to follow this one! I love the distinct art style of the artist, the facial features and the way the eyes and mouths are drawn, excite me because they are so different looking, the color palette is great, with 80’s colors, but the later 80’s not the day glo stuff, but the turquoise, and hot pinks nearer the late 80’s. I just got into the story and now I have to wait for an update! You can catch it on webtoon. The most recent update was the 14th of this month.
Sins of the Mother Creator : Bloodkin Comics
What we know: Veshal, a young social outcast, strives to carve out a place for himself where his society has none to offer. When a friend falls from grace, he risks everything he’s achieved to offer his help. Morals are more important than reputation, after all–but at the end of everything, he may be left with neither.
What we love: The cover was immediately striking and so I picked up this comic to read on NamiComi. While it has 2 episodes, they are super quality, and will get you hooked and waiting for more. The art and color are well matched for this fantasy comic, the story is promising, showing the flirtations of love all the way to the fight for survival when you are surrounded. This comic promises tragedy. I’m almost scared to see what’s next, but then again, bring it on! Head over to the NamiComi and add Sins of the Mother to your library.
