What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.
Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.
Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:
Fruity Booty University : Pulpocalpse Creator : FruityBootyUni
What we know: P-Chi and Sagwa have arrived at Cornucopia University, but when they go to their first college party, they suddenly come face to face with a mold spore zombie apocalypse. Can our cast of fruity characters survive not only the zombies, but also mean sorority girls, a mysterious president, and the troubles of university life?
What we Love: This out of the box zombie comic had me Laughing out loud several times. The name is catchy as hell, and it’s funny as hell too. I couldn’t wait to get to it on my list, I even said “Yes! Fruity Booty day!!” when I got to it. I loved the character designs, it’s fruit headed people like watermelons, limes, peaches, I’ve never seen anything like it, and I love it! Head over to Webtoon and sub!
What happens after death? Creator : Griffster Comics
What we know: The question humanity has asked itself since the dawn of time: What Happens After Death? This 4-page story explores the horrific/chaotic thoughts of a young boy named John, who has just experienced his first encounter with the concept of death. Will he find the definitive answer he’s looking for? Read the story to find out!
What we Love: This one shot comic depicts the internal chaos and heartbreak of when we first are confronted with the reality of Death. The art is beautiful and well done. The story is solemn but also is a very comforting human experience. Death is something we will all face, it’s the one thing we all will share. I think this was great and it needs some more views! I read this on global comix.
Aether Creator : DonJa!
What we know: Suffocated by The Haze, a deadly gas that traps humanity, Nora lives in Area B25 with her little brother. Her quiet world shatters when she receives a call from her father—long thought to be missing—tasking her with a mission that could change everything.
What we Love: I’m sad such a good comic has under 20 subs! I hope Kanme readers go over and have a look at this comic. Out the gate you’d not know this was a smaller Creator because right away I noticed how clean the art was, the lettering is well done, you could easily see this being an animated cartoon series, there is great care in the writing and all around there is no reason why this great little comic shouldn’t be a rising star or hidden treasure with webtoon readers! Psst! This creator also have a second comic ‘The Duke’s Poisoned Cup’, check that one out too.
Bizarro Detective Sci-Fiction : The Nutcase of Johnny Skizz! Creator : Okiro
What we know: Are you looking for some new comics? Something cool as ice? Some hot stuff? You want some 40’s Golden Age Super Hero action? Perhaps some 50’s Hard Boiled Detective comics? Maybe even some 60’s Tokusatus Manga? Or 80’s Gary Panter Science Fiction Madness? Or perhaps you Just Want to have some fun? What? Are you saying those can’t be all in one comic? I got you! I present: Bizarro Detective Sci-Fiction: The Nutcase of Johnny Skizz! Johnny is a young detective, trying to and make a name for himself. When a famous billionaire tycoon calls asking for help, He finally have his great chance to step up. But things escalate quickly, and they don’t appear to be as easy, or as simple as they looked…
What we Love: I really liked the thick black lines, retro look of the comic, it looked straight out of the 1950’s or early 60’s with the retro designs, very old school manga look, like Astro Boy mixed with a detective comic on a little acid. It read like a bit of a bonkers alt comic, so I couldn’t stop reading, I found it so wonderfully weird. Check it out on NamiComi, I was the only sub and I think alt comic lovers would like this! I noticed it’s a Hot title this week too so maybe everyone’s catching on!
