Kenji Rodgers, our story’s protagonist, is teenager who only desires to just live a simple life while pursuing his passion of becoming a beatboxer. He was born into a family that already had issues. His mom had remarried to an American which displeased her family, Mikuya included. With family tensions high and Kenji’s father tour of duty completing, they soon moved away to America. While in America his family continued to move from place to place even after his father got out of service. Kenji couldn’t make friends with the constant moving and it wasn’t until Kenji’s mom got sick that they finally stayed in one place. Kenji was very close to his mother and seeing her ill crushed his world and unfortunately she passed.

Kenji shut down following her passing and focused on something that made him happy his music and beatboxing. It wasn’t soon after that Kenji found out that his father was seeing another woman while his mom was on her deathbed. This created a huge rift between Kenji and his father. When Kenji got expelled from school helping Christine it was the last straw for Kenji’s father. He sent him away back to the only person who would accept him, his sister Mikuya. Kenji thought it was going to be a chance to get away and rekindle a relationship with his family but instead got more than he bargained for.

Mikuya Idato is the older half sister of Kenji and has always aspired to be like her father who was a master of kyudo and an exorcist. She excelled at the art of the bow and was even considered for the olympic team. But plans changed once her father passed away. At her father’s funeral, Mikuya swore that she would carry on his legacy. When she spoke to her mother about her plans, her mother pushed back and told her life would be in constant danger. It was that day that the rift between Mikuya and her mother started.

As time passed Mikuya pursued her father’s legacy. During that time her mother had remarried and had a son, Kenji. Her mom came back a few times to Amagawamachi to try and convince Mikuya to leave for America and each time she refused. She felt it was her duty to protect Amagawamachi from supernatural threats like her dad did. The final time they saw each other, she told her mom, “I hope to never see you again”. Nowadays she tends to the family temple, one of the few remaining in town. There she teaches kyudo and trains a select few in the art of exorcism.

Nami is the younger cousin of Mikuya and Kenji. She has lived most of her life with Mikuya, but not by choice. When Nami was five years her parents mysteriously disappeared without a trace. For the longest time Nami felt it was her fault that her parents left. The only reminders she had of her parents were her memories, a few pictures and a handheld video game system they gave to her before they left.

Nami has since moved on from that terrible day and has dedicated her life to helping Mikuya, even going as far as continuing their family tradition of being exorcists. When she has free time she likes to watch shows, listen to jpop & kpop, and play video games, which is her passion. Video games to her are an important part of her life as it helps her cope with her emotions and helps her escape the world for a short time.

Mayonaka, or Hime as she is known by humans, is the loyal yokai companion of Mikuya. Before meeting her, Mayonaka spent most of her life in seclusion. She was told by fellow yokai that humans, especially exorcist, only wanted to eradicate her from existence. Sadly it wasn’t humans that she needed to worry about trying to eradicate her. Her true enemy came in the form of a fellow Nekomata who betrayed her and left her for dead.

While she laid there slowly dying Mikuya came across Mayonaka and mended her back to health, thus earning her gratitude and loyalty. She promised to give her life to protect and serve her master in any way or form. In return she lives a comfortable life eating sweets, browsing the internet for the cutest lolita dresses and listening to Jpop/Kpop with Nami.

Eita Hayashi comes from a long line of Radiance users. Mikuya’s father and Eita's father were childhood friends but Eita and Mikuya hardly spoke to one another. Mikuya was striving to become an olympic level archer and Eita fell in love with chess. It was his father’s favorite pastime and Eita was extremely passionate about it. This passion led him to compete in many championships, winning most junior and even some pro level events. When he inherited the resonance shard from his father he soon discovered there were others who were like him and those who wanted to take away his shard. Eita was one day attacked by a demonic spirit that Mikuya had been tracking down. Mikuya came in the neck of time and rescued Eita from the very demon she was hunting. From there the two rekindled their fathers’ bond of friendship. Eita has trained under Mikuya ever since and eventually became the leader of “The Trio”.

Chikako Ito has spent all of her life in the town Amagawamachi with her family. She goes to Amagwamachi High school and lives a quiet normal life helping her father and younger brother at their gardening shop. But the one thing that makes her different from her peers is that she’s an exorcist. When her mother passed she inherited her resonance shard at the age of 12. It was then her father told her about what her mom did for the town. Chikako wanted to carry on her mother’s legacy and her father advised she should seek out Mikuya Idato. When the two finally met Mikuya took her under her wing as her first disciple. Ever since she’s been loyal to her master and admires her to the point of affection but she keeps it to herself.

Daichi was orphaned at a young age due to his parents getting into an accident. He lived with his uncle in the town center of Amagwamachi after the incident. As a child, Daichi was easily bullied due to his timidness. One fateful day while doing his chores he heard the voice of his father coming from something in his uncle’s closet whispering for him to awaken his best self. Upon further inspection Daichi found intrakit bracelets that belonged to his father and his radiance awakened in that moment. Daichi spent every day from that moment improving himself and helping those in need. After some time at school he noticed two people in his class who were attacking what seemed like a person. Of course he jumped in to help but didn’t realize it was a malicious spirit. At that moment he met his future comrades Eita and Chikako. They soon introduced him to Mikuya who would take him under her wing and teach him how to wield his Radiance.
