Mayume Kaijo

A Strong-willed, pretty and goal driven individual is the best way to describe Mayume. Unlike her cousin who never knew what happened this his parents Mayume had to watch hers be slaughtered, it changed her life forever. She eventually found herself on the island where she was forced to forget about the world that stole her life. Often eager to get things done Mayume has done what she can to survive and armed herself with skills and knowledge from books she acquires from the great market of Mokaida.
Mayume is also an adapt fighter and magi user thanks to her grandfather. Even though he regrets teaching her she is a rarity in world that seeks the convenience of technology to use magic. As much as Mayume tried to steer her life in a different direction she couldn’t help but abandon her grandfather or cousin Sai. Mayume, as much as she hated it, accepted her fate for now and her life seemed to reach a semblance of stability and mundane routines. She hoped something, anything, would come her way and change everything in her life.

Sai is the youngest of the grandchild of Wai. Sai never got to know the pain or losing his family, he doesn’t even have a memory of them. He was brought to the island by the military which followed orders by a note to take the young boy to his grandfather. He is plucky young kid who sees the world as a big adventure. He enjoys stories especially about Lady Luna and the Watatsumis who Wai said saved his life one day during a shipwreck. He looks up to his cousin and often wants to go with her and play market. He hopes one day to grow up strong like Mayume and Wai. Sai, unlike his relatives, does not have a jaded view of the world. All he wants to do is be as helpful as possible and make a game out of it if possible. He never wishes for life to change because after all this is all he knows. Things seem to be staying that course until one day stumbles upon something that changes the lives of everyone on Kaijo island forever.

Wai life was poor yet simple. He grew up with nothing but was a gifted fishermen and made a decent living before he joined up with the military. He soon found himself in the frontline in the Shinto-Mahtin war. During his time he was a hero but something drove him away from that life and he instead settled down and married. When his wife died he decided to stay on his island and live out the rest of his life in isolation from the world. That caused him to break contact from his family, his son and daughter. During his time away from the world on Kaijo island he peacefully continued to live the life he had before the war, fishing and trading. Eventually war ravaged the land again and his children soon became casualties.
Wai was not made aware of this until his two grandchildren found their way to him. He raised Sai and Mayume like they were his own and taught them his craft and shielded them from the harsh world. They live peacefully and their life is mundane at best, but the troubles of the world do find their way to him again...
