Hey, what’s Kanme reading?

Wednesday 07/23 /2025

What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all  love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.

Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.

Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:

The Star Boy Creator Jay HuH

The Star Boy

What we know: Noah, once called “Starboy” by his father, is the main character. One night, while doing graffiti at an abandoned factory, he meets Chris, who is about to take his own life. Set in an arts high school, the story follows emotionally hurt teens finding healing and growth through each other. It’s a high-teen drama about young artists connecting, clashing, and coming of age.

What we love: The Star Boy is a seemingly light comic that deals with some very heavy issues, the art style is pretty cool, nicely drawn with great character designs. The first episode does have some serious trigger warning type scenes (su*cidal ideation) but it is handled in a good way and not done for salacious drama, but if you are sensitive to that subject read with caution, but again it seems to be handled very well. I read it on Wt, new episode is supposed to be out in a few days!

Death of A Crescent Moon Creator : Kaz Art

Death Of A Crescent Moon

What we know: When college basketball star Johan’s world shatters after his parents are attacked by demons, he’s thrust into a hidden war and forced to confront his family’s secret legacy as exorcists—unraveling dark truths of genocide and demon kind in modern-day society in Death of a Crescent Moon.

What we love : This is a well-done manga, clean art, good use of screen tones and excellent line art. The story is an intriguing one, keeping within traditional manga themes. Reads right to left, so at first it got me, but then I got the hang of it as I hadn’t read right to left in a while. If you are an indie Manga fan check out this comic on GlobalComix!

 Damage Healer Creator : concacon.club

Damage Healer

What we know: They were chosen by the King to slay an Elden Dragon. But the mission turned into a nightmare. For Galen, the team’s healer, it wasn’t just a battle — it was a cruel lesson. When the group was thrown into mortal danger, with the Dark Force behind, trust shattered and survival became uncertain. Betrayed. Broken. Hunted. Their story didn’t end with glory — it began with blood.

What we love: This is the Creator’s second comic, and it’s a big splash! Professional art and lettering made me surprised that this is a hidden gem of an indie Canvas comic, but it is better produced than some Originals! Chapter 3 just wrapped up, so I imagine the Creator is preparing new episodes for release. Let’s hope so because this is a terrific comic! You can read it on wt!

Petrichor Creator : Motii

Petrochor

What we know : Bioprecipitation has claimed the world. The sun has become a dream and water floods the land. Yet, people adapt and life goes on. Technology has solved the inconveniences of nature and artificial light is the norm. But the truth is ignored. And the rain never ends.

What we love: This comic has a unique storyline of the MC is stuck in a world of vast futuristic technology but also where the rain never stops failing, I live where rain is not common anymore, so while never ending rain wouldn’t seem too bad, the opposite of a drought can be just as dangerous, as neither are good for life and growing food.  The story just started on NamiComi, so I look forward to seeing where it goes and how it’s explained about the rain/imbalance of the earth’s ecosystem. Art is fantastic, story is intriguing, and you should head over to NamiComi and check it out!
