What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.
Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.
Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:
Do we have a contract? Creator : Uncanny Yarns
What we know : Set in Italy during World War II a young man, Ciero makes a deal for survival. A beautifully drawn black and white comic with a Queer cast of Humans and Demons just trying to keep it together during dark times. We’ve been fans of DWHAC a long time.
What we like : From the Staffer that recommended it. :
I love the art style, it has an organic almost calligraphic look to the inking. It’s a beautiful comic. The storytelling, full of twists and turns, keeps you coming back. There’s drama, humor and at its core there is an emotional relationship. This comic needs more love, head over to Uncanny Yarn’s website and have a read.
Bagley the Magician. Creator : Chanchimi
What we know : Bagley is not good, not bad, but just OK for a magician but we are in love. Great art style and at only 7k views on Tapas this comic needs to be SEEN. The magician for hire has adventures in a medieval fantasy realm, it’s often humorous and has themes of friendship and of course magic! We think you need to go over and give this little guy some love. Because we are all just OK sometimes.
What we like: This comic had not one but TWO staffers gushing about it so you know we had to find out more! From the staffers : I genuinely enjoy the humor Chanchimi write, The premise of Bagley is really funny because he’s not a bad magician..he’s not a good one either JUST OK! He may not be perfect but the message that is sent makes me smile. We like that. And we totally agree with Staffer two : Hype him! Absolutely we will! Get yourself over the Tapas and check out the little guy!
Sissonne Creator : Benalee Books
What We know : A Crimefighter with Ballet dance moves? We love this quirky Superhero comedy. Mark is an average guy but he has a secret Identity of ‘Sissonne’ the not so good but good hearted Crimefighter. When his girlfriend finds out he must try to win back his lost love. Great art, funny award winning story telling, this is another one of those under the radar why aren’t you reading this comic?
What we love : This is my recommendation, the art is classic and the comedy is clever and all around well done by this comic’s team. Others must love it too as it has successful kick starters! You can read it on Global Comix and you really should! Maybe you might want to take up ballet after some issues? Start following this team so you can get the latest print on the next Kickstarter!
Cemetery Kids Don’t die Creator Zac Thompson
What we know : Put out by Indie publisher Omni Press with a dream team of comic creators who have paid their dues in the biz this comic is making the rounds. Even Screen rant got excited for this debut! Horror and Sci-fi combine into powerful and emotional storytelling. Four friends play an immersive online game which is fun until one of them never comes out of it.
What we love : From the Staffer who recommended it : The art is awesome, and the premise is a what if .hack// was gothic horror filled world of monsters instead of fantasy? The in comic game designs are realistic and actually make you feel afraid for the Kids’ who are in danger, but even in horror Teamwork is dream work and this team makes the story. This is worth grabbing a print edition of all the current issues !
