What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.
Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.
Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:
Loving Wings : Creator Elf Grafix
What we know : We’ve been following this comic for a while. It’s a slow burn romance between the shy, quiet Jessica and big hunky himbo Michael, but Michael has a secret : he is an Angel, a Big burly angel of biblical proportions!
What we love: The staffer who recommended it “ I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for Big, strong, yet gentle sweet hearted guys. The art is great and the romantic story is even better!” This creator is quite prolific having two comics, Loving Wings and Guardian Wings both are highly recommended reads! You can check out these comics on Webtoon!
Nocturne 21: Creator Grape Ape Comics
What we know : When a Doctor discovers a dying teen in the midst of a terrible rain storm he takes the boy home to convalesce. The young man suffering from amnesia is learning to cope in this world he must relearn how to navigate while dealing with nightmares, unusual abilities. His new family must also learn to deal with their strange new found son.
What we love : From the Staffer who recommended the series (Me) “ This unusual tale is illustrated brilliantly. Gritty, yet beautiful in a painted/ink style perfectly attuned with the dark story in its cold blue and purple colors.” Head over to GlobalComix pick up a PDF of the comic and enjoy!
Kuro Shouri : Creator Kikirini
What we know : This fantasy action comic has an odd couple of friends, Hisaki and Yasha, who have to put up with their differences to outrun creatures that are on their trail.
What we love : From the staffer that recommended it :” To start it’s got a great tagline “ What’s a little demon possession between friends?” YEAH! This comic needs more attention, it’s drawn in a great style with a story that is compelling. The comic world is vast, and growing every day but make no mistake Kuro Shouri should be on your regular reading list. You can read on several platforms but we use Comic Fury as our go-to.
Hairy Tales : Creator Freaktown comics
Hairy Tales GC
What we know : Russell Hillman is an average bloke who writes great comics! In this autobiographical comic he writes about his experiences growing up in the UK in the 1990’s. Art and Lettering by Sergio Calvet.
What we love : From the staffer who recommended it “ It’s funny, poignant, easily relatable to anyone who came of age in the 90’s.” We agree! You can check out all of The Freaktown comics on GlobalComix as well as their own website. They frequently run kickstarters so keep an eye out on their titles in print!
