Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.
Don’t Forget The Moon Herbs Creator: Coati
What we know: Benjamin, a young herbalist, arrives in a remote village to deliver medicinal herbs, only to end up chosen as a sacrifice for the malicious spirits haunting the region for decades. His only hope appears when he crosses paths with Aelindel, a spirit purifier mage searching for a rare lunar herb capable of breaking the village’s curse. Bound together by fate, the two embark on a dangerous journey where secrets, spirits, and unexpected feelings begin to bloom beneath the moonlight.
What we love: If you’re a webtooner and looking for your next obsession, this is it. It has a phenomenal opening episode of imagery that hooks you right away with beautiful art and a unique premise. The fusion of magic and botany creates a completely fascinating world that makes it incredibly easy to binge episode after episode. I found this through a Reddit recommendation, do yourself a favor and read it and sub on Webtoon!
A Safe place to live Creator: WinstonGambo
What we know: The charming town of Orchard has everything you could ever need; walkable streets, friendly residents, and no escape. But why would you want to leave? The world outside is a nuclear wasteland! It’s much better to stay in the warm confines of Orchard and ignore the deep secrets it holds. After all, it’s a safe place to live.
What we love: If you love slow-burn thrillers, read this comic ASAP! It perfectly captures a paranoid, sort of dystopian Cold War vibe where you feel trapped, even though life is supposedly normal all around you. Visually, the unique colors set the somber mood and complement the artwork. Storytelling is amazing with each page keeping you hooked. It is an incredibly easy, highly addictive binge on GlobalComix.
Peak Creator: Anna Otter
What we know: Two siblings set out on a small adventure to finally realize a long-cherished dream: reaching the peak of a famous mountain. But the challenges ahead are far more daunting than a simple climb. The thing is, they are no ordinary children…
What we love: What a delightful find on Webtoon! This is a charming little story about two vampire siblings, and the art and writing complement each other perfectly to create a fun read. While I’m not sure if this is a one-shot or the start of an ongoing series, it has a ton of promise. I crossed my fingers hoping for a full series; this world deserves to be expanded! Kitty Alien Creator: Aisle 4 Studios
What we know: The misadventures of two best friends exploring a strange world full of opportunity.
What we love: This comic is an absolute hidden gem on NamiComi. It is delightfully quirky, wonderfully weird, and oddly charming from the start. The characters are written so well and endearing that you can’t help but root for them while wishing you could shield them from all the harshness of their world. If you need a wholesome, unique read this will brighten your day ! Sub at NamiComi!
