Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.
Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.
Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:
The Sun Sets on Arizona Creator: misfire & Chuuyfied
What we know: 1890s Arizona. Dusk Hoffman is a dim-witted boy who’s spent his entire life isolated in a small but seemingly tight-knit gang. As the era of outlaws crawls to an end, he’s stuck between staying with what he’s always known, or leaving to a rapidly changing world that wasn’t made for him. What we love: As a ‘Zonie” how can I not read a comic with Arizona in the name? The unique artwork and tinted sepia pages give it a beautiful, classic Western vibe. The storytelling combines a timeless cowboy theme with a great coming-of-age angle. It’s early in its run but already shows massive promise. Give it a sub! Head over to Webtoon now!
Galknights Creator: Witchparfait
What we know: A spoiled princess and her bestie go on adventures.
What we love: Clever, fun, and beautifully drawn.The exceptional black and white art captures a perfect 90s manga aesthetic, I had a good time reading this on Inkstra!
Welcome to the West Creator : Riot inc.
What we know: Wanna hear a little story? It’s a story about how one man’s path for vengeance ignited the ultimate climax of a continent built of hate and violence. A story of how one gang manages to reshape the landscape of a war that has lasted for years. This is a story of how a Deadman named Jack became the embodiment of death itself. What kind of monster can revenge create?
What we love: Sticking with the Western theme for WB comics. This one’s a toughie, it’s a well-done comic with excellent art and writing, it’s good! but in all honesty it is shockingly violent for a Canvas Webtoon, considering the platform’s level of censorship. There’s lots of blood and bullets to heads, and a lot of death packed into every page, it’s not for the faint of heart! If you like your Westerns good and bloody check this comic out.
Black Box Creator: RizzleToony
What we know: After reuniting with her friend, Allison is somehow sent to a place with no rules known as the Black Box. Everyone here has an item with a strange ability. Everyone except for her… Now it is Allison’s mission to track down her friend and fulfill their childhood promise.
What we love: Discovered via NamiComi’s Editor’s Choice, this comic is a genuinely fascinating read. It features a gripping storyline that keeps you hooked from start to finish, complemented by excellent artwork that fits the narrative perfectly. Taking a chance on this was well worth it.
