What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognising the comics we love to read.
Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.
Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:
Blood and Belief Creator: Salem Solasta
What we know: Camille would do anything to keep his family safe. Rubin would do anything to break free from his brother’s shadow. In an effort to do so, he unknowingly aligns himself with a revolution that will force him to choose between blood and belief. A story about two brothers, magic, and war.
What we love: This comic was recommended on Reddit. While fantasy and magic are a highly competitive genre, like the best of them, this little comic brings something unique to the genre and keeps things fresh! The creator is new and learning the craft, but I’m excited to see where the story goes next! And watch the Creator grow stronger. Check it out on Webtoon and subscribe to help this comic grow!
The Children of Baudelaire Creator : Teddybearlover111
What we know: One man’s sins that cost millions of people their lives. Shawn takes a big leap to go into the world of the five dead Baudelaire children who haunt the commune of Queaux, France, by getting teleported through a mysterious blank canvas usually found by millions of victims living in the commune. They are usually missing and sometimes found dead by gruesome acts of murder. They have to confront the children through games that they are commanded to do. However, don’t ever upset the children of Baudelaire…or else you will taste the wrath of death!
What we love: This is a wild, creepy, and entertaining read packed with twists, turns, and strange moments that keep you hooked. Real WTF?! moments! I’ve enjoyed the episodes available so far. If surreal, offbeat supernatural stories are your thing, this one is definitely worth checking out! Updates Monthly you can read it on GlobalComix!
Sex & Drugs Creator : Red light Drink shop
What we know: Years after going AWOL from forced private military service, Mika has finally settled down as a pharmaceuticals street dealer. One night, on his way home from a job, an injured vampire crash lands into his life and refuses to go away. Despite his discomfort, Mika finds himself slowly getting attached to Frei, a chaotic blood junkie turned reluctant sex worker. When both of their pasts threaten to catch up with them, the respite they’ve found in each other starts to crumble. How will their choices shape their path forward? Sex & Drugs is a mature story set in a world where the powers that be have taken over people’s lives, leaving those who aren’t loyal or conforming to fend for themselves. This story contains mentions of drug use, sex work, exploitation, sexual and physical abuse, and other difficult topics. Please proceed with caution at your own discretion.
What we love: This one-shot comic is beautifully done. The black-and-white artwork is nearly perfect and leaves a strong impression. Because it’s currently a short one-shot, it leaves you wanting more to read, and I hope the creator shares more chapters soon! I found it on NamiComi, so go give it a follow!
A Symphony of Rust & Snow Creator : Glofernwolfe
What we know: They say it’s dangerous to step out into the snow when there’s no sunlight. If it’s not the toxic crimson fog or the deadly wildlife that gets you, it’s the city itself. But here’s the thing… Asenya barely gets any sunlight. Most of the year, it’s dark and snowbound. So you’d stay home—if you had one. Then again, if you’re part of the rebellion, like everyone is, you’re bound to be hunted by a Shadow Keeper. You can’t step out, and you can’t stay in. Disorder. That’s what the Council wants. But there’s one person who can change that. And if you’re an Asenyan, you already know who that is. Captain Zov’ha Svao.
What we love: This is a fantastic comic with immersive painted artwork, strong action scenes, with touches of sci-fi surrealism. It brings to mind the beautifully painted comics by Innovation published in the 1990s. Check out this gorgeous comic on Inkstra!
