What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.
Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.
Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:
A Tales Hollow Creator : Season Cookies
What we know : After emerging from a crystalline cocoon memory-less. She attempts to connect her visions of the past to tell her tale. Together with her new found friend, Estella, they both try to make it to the capital to find their families. But will this cruel world end up swallowing them? Full of mysteries and unimaginable creatures yearning for their chance to shine. Can she ever truly find a happy ending? or will her story be dragged on, forever wanting to reach it’s end…
What we Love: It’s a cutely drawn, well done fairy tale –like magical mystery story. Looks like the Creator is learning animation too and has a youtube channel. I read the comic on Webtoon! Go and give it a sub.
Dead of Night Creator : Gray is a Ghost
What we know : Follow four amateur monster hunters as they travel across the country to uncover dangerous secrets and global conspiracies.
What we Love: I originally lined up a different comic to read, but sadly that one just couldn’t hold my attention as much as I would’ve liked to finish it, but scrolling through GlobalComix I found this comic which fit much better. The story of this group of amateur Monster hunters is set in the 1980’s, they aren’t hunting as in to destroy the creatures they are looking for, they are investigating cryptids as part of class project. Over a long holiday weekend with a paper due Wednesday they head out on a road trip in a beat-up RV to go look for the Bunny man. Which I can’t wait to see where it goes. The art is simplistic and improves with every page updated. I liked the story and hope to see more pages soon. Worth it to sub on Global Comix and binge as more pages get added.
The Midnight Circle Creator : Guarawo
What we know: BL/ Supernatural/ slice of life/ drama/ humor/ monster hunting/ slow burn/ bickerers to lovers Arcanum Academy trains the heirs of the occult high society. Ian and Thomas have complementary abilities, and they are each other’s assigned partner for a class. Ian has a great power, but it comes with a price. Science says he doesn’t have long to live and Thomas might be his treatment.
What we Love: Its rare to see a new comic take off so fast, but there is a reason why this little comic has started catching everyone’s attention. It’s pretty darn good! Art wise it is unique and recognizable nothing generic here. The story is strong, and full of promise, head over to Webtoon see if you can get this creator near the 1K subs mark.
The Boy who fell between pages Creator : Shizuko Comic
What we know : Malik no longer feels like he belongs to the real world. Wounded, isolated and constantly judged, he escapes into books to survive. But one day… Malik will face his fears, his past… and the feelings he tried to bury. Will this lead him to disappear forever?
What we Love: This is a brand new comic that deals with wanting to escape the world and dive into our safe places, in this case for Malik it’s books. Perfect for those who also find books the refuge from the everyday noise all around us. The art style/ storytelling of well done, pretty much the art you want when reading a webtoon. The next update is May 3rd. Go and follow on NamiComi!
