What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognizing the comics we love to read.
It’s Pride Month so this month’s blog Focuses on LGBTQA creators and their comics.
Representation matters, many creators draw the comics they wish they could find on the shelf but never do. LGBTQA have stories to tell and for me this is all year round, but in this world right now it’s important to have PRIDE.
Team Diamant comics is a partnership of 2 Trans Gay Twins who set out to put the stories we wanted to see out there, which is why this month we support our fellow Creators in the Community.
Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:
One to Infinity Creator : MarsMerriments
What we know: The concept of zero is not natural to humans; it is simply learned. In the capitalistic world of certainty there are those who are fixed for their roles and their places. But when love is added to the equation, it seems that the numbers do not add up. Dystopian BL Romance.
What we Love: This has a very strong, well thought out story, and the world building made it easy to catch on. The story captures well the exhaustion of just trying to survive in a Capitalist Dystopia kind of like the we’re kind of crashing towards, there is sfw depiction of sex work something that I myself have no issue with, as in my own work, there are sex workers as OCs, in a world where survival is everything you have to do what you need to to survive. The art style is good, and the comic as a whole is well done, can’t wait to see more! I read it on Webtoon!
That Poly Couple Creator : Lars Media
What we know: Step into the world of a dynamic poly couple, where love knows no bounds and adventure is always on the horizon. Meet the thug with a heart of gold, the billionaire playboy philanthropist, the cop who upholds justice with unwavering dedication (and a hatred of ties), and the enby ambivert who brings balance and joy to their lives. Enjoy this fast paced comic about living in a life surrounded by loyalty to family, the job and each other. Watch as each character overcomes their own personal struggles to find each other.
What we Love: I found this comic on NamiComi looking for Pride titles, and thought the cover art looked cool, and I liked the art style. I was delighted to see this is an authentically queer comic by a queer Creator. This comic has a lot of promise for growth and pretty good storyline that’s starting out, I’m not sure when they update on Nami but I hope it is soon, maybe if more folks sub the Creator will post more again, looks like they haven’t posted much anywhere since February, I hope they come back because I think it’s awesome and I hope you will too. I found there is a version on Webtoon that is more updated, but I Read on NamiComi!
A Long Walk Home Creator: ShinyGastodon
What we know: When Wizard; a survivor from a kingdom lost long ago, discovers the creature that once powered their home’s temple reincarnated as a child, the pair make the long journey back to the ruins in hope of not only restoring it, but preventing the world from decaying into nothingness.
What we Love: Recommended to me on reddit I was pleasantly surprised with this fantasy comic, the story and world that was created is quite fantastic and well defined, the art is rich and unique to its world, and great character designs. The story has child-like wonder balanced with the sadness of reality. I read it on webtoon, head over and give them a sub!
Storms and Spells Creator: Zombie Tigeress art
What we know: When pirate captain Tav Harlan lets a short tempered sorceress join his crew, he gets more adventure than he bargained for.
What we Love: I’ve featured one of the other comics this artist has done Stars in Roses. I found this comic when going through the LGBTQA themed comics on GlobalComix. The bright vivid gem-like artwork is distinct, so I recognized the Creator right away, and I dove right in to check out this queer fantasy! I binge read it, it’s a clever, funny anthropomorphic fantasy, and I’m sure the drama is a -coming soon based on where it left off! The most recent part was launched five days ago, it’s actively being updated on GlobalComix, so head over and add it to your shelf.
