What’s Kanme reading? Posted every Wednesday Team Kanme Creatives team is here to get you over the weekday blues because we all love comics! It’s true! And we really love Indie comics. Indies offer the most diverse and fearless storytelling among comics, why? Because we can! We are always inspired by the community around us and we want to start recognising the comics we love to read. Pride Month is over, but all comics that were recommended to me by queer Comic Creators/ Queer Comics will be reviewed still, you’ve been added to my overall reading list.
Every week we’re going to recommend comics we are reading to you.
Our first recommendation from the Team Kanme is:
Uppity Creator : Issaiah Broussard
What we know : Upton and his bandmates try to make their names known while dealing with the racism of Civil Rights era America.
What we love: Set in the Civil Rights era this comedy about a man and his band is phenomenal. Well researched right down to the fact one of the OCs was reading a Green Book which was a guide to safe places that would serve POC when travelling. Details like this make this comic a treat to read, but also the art and story are well done. It’s released twice a month on Webtoon. Highly suggest you give it a sub and check it out! This Creator has another comic that looks outstanding called Transyltown with a vampire and his friend a Slayer. I’ll review this one in the future.
Changeling Creator : Magiclands
What we know : Sassy, barefoot and partially nude, a powerful sorcerer called the Changeling curses a girl to die when she turns 21. With only 365 days left to break her curse, she hires a depressed homeless man to join her mission to kill the Changeling before her time is up!
What we love: When I was a teen there was a show called Dead at 21 now spoiler alert although it’s been like 30 years, and by now if you we going to see it you did- that kid was indeed dead at 21, but I have high hopes that in this comic our heroine will defeat this curse and escape it! Unless the Creator is going to torment me like they did in 94! Captivating story, and great black and white art, this comic is all around pretty cool. I read it on NamiComi!
Princess Thalassa Creator : ShwyChu
What we know : After a mysterious devastating battle Brant awakens on a small boat in the middle of the sea and, soon finding himself in the company of Renata, a young brash cat girl, as the amnesiac boy learns more of this world and, who he is, he forgot and the war raging between the human tribes and hers they find themselves in chaotic conflicts and situations outside their wildest dreams.
What we love: A fun fantasy comic with some mystery, action and humor rolled into one. There’s a lot going on with this comic; creative storytelling and art style makes it bingeworthy! This prolific creator has several comics. You should also check out if you follow their account. Sub on wt to keep up with updates.
Star Slayer Creator : Sxull Kidd
What we know : After a falling star destroys his home, Algae must place his trust in a shady stranger in hopes of getting his life back. Will he succeed or get wrapped up in something darker than he could ever imagine?
What we love: A cute and naughty comic (they be naked ) that is a great and funny start to an already promising new comic. I loved the art style, funky, eclectic and stand apart from the crowd. I found it on NamiComi!
